Full Spectrum CBD oils vs CBD isolate oils in Medicinal Cannabis?

Updated: Feb 11

CBD is Cannabidiol, a major cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. CBD in medicinal cannabis is the non-intoxicating part of cannabis. CBD helps with pain and reduces inflammation. Some medical cannabis plant strains grow with CBD as the predominant cannabinoid. CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD oil is the CBD extracted and placed in a carrier oil like MCT (medium chain triglyceride oil). But other carrier oils can be used like coconut, olive, avocado or sunflower oil.

What is Full Spectrum CBD oil?

Cannabis plants contain more than CBD, they can contain a small amount of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol, psychoactive cannabinoid), other cannabinoids and terpenes (taste and smell of cannabis). Full spectrum CBD oil is when terpenes and other cannabinoids along with CBD are extracted from the plant.

What is CBD isolate in medical cannabis?

CBD isolate is when only CBD is extracted from the plant with almost no THC. CBD isolates have little or no THC and don't have other cannabinoids or terpenes. Sometimes botanical terpenes (not obtained from the cannabis plant) are added to CBD isolate after extraction. These products have CBD isolate, and botanical terpenes (not cannabis related) but do not have the other cannabinoids present in cannabis plants.

What is better? Full Spectrum CBD oil or CBD isolate in medical marijuana?

Generally, fully spectrum oils are considered more natural and offer more benefits like in reducing pain and inflammation. But full-spectrum oils can be more expensive. CBD isolates are much cheaper to extract and this is one of the main reasons for the price variability in CBD oils.

Next time you choose CBD oil, ask the question, is this full spectrum or isolate?
